Owen Coyle gives credit to Odisha FC for the second (Vinith Rai’s) goal

Chennaiyin FC again failed to capitalize their opportunities and lost to Odisha FC. Both sides met each other at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday (6/1/20). Vinit Rai runs the show in Odisha, Jerry (37′) and Rai’s (41′) goal creates the difference.

Chennaiyin FC coach Owen Coyle addressed the press in the post-match conference and shared his opinion.

Owen Coyle thinks the match is a set back for them

“It was a setback for us. Earlier on we had a penalty and it was a perfect opportunity for us to go in front, but we missed a wonderful opportunity.”Owen Coyle spoke in the post-match conference.

Owen Coyle’s crediting the opponents  

“The second goal was a wonderful goal by our opponents from outside the box. It was a great move by Odisha. Sometimes, you need to give credit to the opposition.”

Owen Coyle says in the second half there were only team played and that was Chenaiyin

“But, if you see the second half, it was only one team playing and that was Chennaiyin. They created no chances in the second half. Their goalkeeper made a couple of fantastic saves. There were also a couple of penalty calls. So, the second half there was a lot of positives. We are improving as a team apart from individual mistakes, which will be taken care of, but we have shown we can win games.”

Owen Coyle says the outfit is not ready but he surprised that there were no injuries

“That field is not ready, there was grass coming out and I’m surprised that there were no injuries. That being said, Odisha has a great stadium, great fans and it is a footballing state.”

Owen Coyle says there were lost’s of possibilities in the game but they started slowly

“There were a lot of positives in the game, but we had a slow start before I came in. We have a lot of work to do, but we have enough games and enough points to play for.”


The Chennaiyin Fc side will play their next Indian Super League (ISL) game at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday (10/1/20) against Hyderabad FC.
