Kushal Das says they always wanted Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in the ISL

East Bengal has got their investor Sree Cement and their run for ISL has been starting. The General Secretary of Indian Football is very happy that Mohun Bagan and East Bengal join ISL. He also mentioned from the session 2024-25 the relegation will start in ISL

In an interaction with PTI Kushal Das shared Indian football’s further steps.

Kushal Das says they are going for promotion and relegation in ISL within 2024-25

“Going forward, in the next two-three years Indian football will have a structured road map in terms and relegation and promotion.

“The roadmap is for the next two years. The winner of I-League will get a direct slot in ISL purely on sporting merit from 2022. Then, from 2024-25, there will be promotion and relegation, where the bottom-placed team in ISL will be relegated to the second-tier and the I-League winner will be promoted to ISL. This is the roadmap agreed by all stakeholders.” Kushal das told PTI.

Kushal Das says getting two fan-based clubs in ISL a great thing

“Getting two fan-based clubs is a great thing for the ISL also. We have worked a lot for a long time. It required lots of consultations with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), various stakeholders, the clubs, and our commercial partners FSDL (Football Sports Development Limited, which organizes the ISL”

Kushal Das says they always wanted Mohun Bagan and East Bengal in the ISL

“We have always wanted Mohun Bagan and East Bengal to be in ISL. That was the basis for the whole roadmap. We have always believed legacy cannot be ignored. There was a little bit of concern, but it’s sorted now.”

Kushal Das says before the AFC road map plan they include two clubs from I-League in ISL

“The road map was agreed upon but the fact is we have also achieved better than what expected. The road map said by the end of 2021 season we will have two I-League clubs in ISL, but we have done it before that time.” Kushal das concluded
