Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted that he struggled to contain his emotions after scoring a goal against Arsenal, the former team that won Liverpool’s incredible EFL Cup.
The 26-year-old went on a long-distance strike over Emiliano Martinez in Wednesday’s 1-3 draw, which won the Liverpool penalty to reach the quarterfinals.
It was the sixth start for the Oxlade-Chamberlain season and his first goal against the club he represented for six years before moving to the 25, but one he felt unable to celebrate.
“It was a pretty good goal, so celebrations were really hard to keep but it was always something I knew I would do against my former club,” he said.
“I’ve always wanted to show a lot of respect to Arsenal and the time they had for me and the time I had. I didn’t want to celebrate but it was a difficult task to keep. I wanted to take off my shirt and go crazy!” …
